Discover the untold story of navigating business challenges during life’s biggest transitions. From investing in a $24k mastermind while pregnant to closing a thriving business at its peak, learn how bold, aligned choices created lasting freedom and profitability—and how you can do the same.
Last week, I shared the story about being five months pregnant with Atlas back and investing $24,000 in a mastermind to prepare my business for motherhood.
But here’s the part I didn’t tell you.
While all of that was happening, my husband lost his job.
Suddenly, I wasn’t just preparing for a baby—I was also the sole breadwinner, carrying the weight of our financial responsibilities while navigating one of the biggest transitions in my business at the time.
There was a LOT going on
There was every reason to put off making changes.
To focus on what had always worked…
And to double down on what felt like a dead cert and was already bringing revenue in…
But deep down, I knew it wasn’t aligned with the life I wanted to create for myself or for my family.
So, I made a choice.
Fast forward to 2022
A similar sliding doors moment happened.
I was having my highest-revenue year, had finally cracked $100k months and then found myself bringing in consistent multiple six figure months not long afterwards.
By all outward appearances, everything was “working.”
But inside, I was exhausted.
While the money was opening up choices that, as a family, we’d never experienced before, I reached a point where that simply wasn’t enough.
The short version of the story is that I wanted my energy back and didn’t want to keep making money in a way that drained me.
So, I made a bold decision.
I closed my offers, turned away new clients, and essentially burned my business to the ground.
During that time I made a commitment to focus less on trying to figure everything out, and more on taking care of myself, sitting with whatever stuff came up in the silence, trusting that my next steps would emerge whenever I was ready.
Sharing the messy middle
After Sunday’s newsletter, a friend messaged me and said something that really made me reflect.
She said, “You know, when I was in my hustle season, I probably would’ve read this and thought, ‘she’s full of shit.’”
And I get it.
So much of what we hear online sells the dream that everything is easy and effortless all of the time.
So much so that when that’s not your experience, it’s easy to feel like you’re doing something wrong.
Because the truth?
It’s not easy, nor is it effortless.
Building a business, especially one that aligns with who you are and the life you want, is not a quick or easy path.
It’s going to take time.
It’s going to stretch your energetic and intellectual capacity.
And it’s going to challenge you to look beyond your current circumstances and believe that a different way of operating – both in relation to the work itself and the way you do it – is possible for you.
And that often means making hard decisions.
Scary decisions.
Decisions that are contrary to the dominant narrative.
The kind that will likely not make sense to anyone else (or even to yourself at times) but feel true and aligned for you nonetheless.
Oh, and did I mention that it will take time…
Letting go of money as the breadwinner?
That alone was hard.
But there was another layer.
As a business owner and mentor, there’s this underlying pressure to lead from the front and constantly grow.
It was something I didn’t even realize until I was staring down the possibility that these changes might mean making less money for a while.
And there was definitely an ego death that came along with that.
What would it mean about me, as a coach, leader and mentor if I could no longer sustain seven figures in a year?
It was a lot to sit with.
And that’s the point. I had to sit with it.
I didn’t rush those uncomfortable feelings away or try to force clarity. I allowed myself to feel all of it while using it as an opportunity to root even deeper into what felt true and authentic for me.
So often, we only see the other side of the journey—the polished results, the neatly tied-up endings, which is why I always want this to be a space where I show you what it looked like in the middle.
The moments when nothing felt certain, and every decision felt like a giant leap of faith.
Because yes, I’m speaking to you now on the other side of it.
But as I was making these choices and choosing to put my life first, none of it was guaranteed and a ton of work went into – and continues to go into – creating the kind of lifestyle that I’m fortunate to live now.
What alignment looks like today
Now, I wake up every day knowing my business is built around my life.
Everything is streamlined and systematised.
We leverage more of what’s already been created and proven, which means my energy isn’t required to make everything run and that’s precisely why it feels so good to give me energy generously.
Tomorrow, I’m volunteering at my kids’ school as part of the Thanksgiving celebrations and next week, I’m taking the day to be a chaperone for my son’s field trip.
My Q1 work is already done, giving me room to embrace the slower pace of this season.
I’m resetting the energy in my home as we prepare for Thanksgiving and holiday season, making space for rest and connection over the coming weeks.
And the key piece is that I haven’t chosen all of this to the detriment of the business.
We’re actually the most profitable we’ve ever been.
What’s changed is that when what I wanted from my life shifted, I honoured that and challenged myself to grow and evolve as a business owner in order to make that space for that and still have the business thrive.
When one of my students joined Life First Business, she was already making good money. She had a full roster of private clients and a business she was proud of.
But she wanted more.
She wanted to create spaciousness, set strong foundations, and prepare her business for the day she steps into her motherhood chapter.
Over the past year, inside Life First Business and Traction (our membership for LFB alumni), she’s followed the success path we break down inside the program.
She’s focused her work time on building rinse-and-repeat systems, establishing the infrastructure to scale her program, and creating the space she’s been dreaming of.
The result? Her biggest launch to date—and the confidence to know she’s ready to carry that momentum into next year and open up even more space to enjoy the life she’s worked so hard to cultivate.
None of this would have happened if she hadn’t believed this way of working was possible, or if she’d dismissed it as a “nice-to-have” or something to push off until later.
Instead, she immersed herself in an environment that not only supported her vision of alignment but also gave her the practical tools to create it.
Is this the year you choose differently?
So often, we put this off.
We tell ourselves that it’s something we’ll focus on later, once things are more stable, less overwhelming.
But here’s the truth:
Every time you delay, you rob yourself of the very experience you wanted when you started your business in the first place.
The support is here.
It’s just waiting for you to believe it’s possible and take the first step.
